4 Tips That Can Make You Feel More Comfortable in Your Own Skin
Being comfortable in your skin is easier said than done. You first need to fully know and accept yourself, including the parts needing improvement. While this is a complex process, it’s vital for helping your natural beauty shine through. This true beauty of yours can only be revealed when you’re at peace with yourself, giving your face an unmistakable glow and allowing you to feel good from the inside and out.
If you want to be more comfortable and confident in yourself, here are a few tips you can follow:
- Make healthier lifestyle choices
Beauty starts from within, so it’s only fitting to start feeling more comfortable in your own skin by nurturing your health. Doing so will involve making healthier choices, like eating more balanced meals and exercising more regularly. Consuming balanced meals allows you to receive the proper nutrients to ensure that you’re living healthily and free from sickness. Meanwhile, exercising regularly helps you keep in shape by burning excess calories, making you more comfortable in your outer appearance.
An easy way to start eating healthier is by incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your favourite dishes, like fruits on your ice cream and cauliflower mashed potatoes as a side to steak. Meanwhile, moving more can be as simple as playing with your pets more or choosing to walk instead of taking the tube or your car.
- Wear comfortable clothes
Clothing plays a huge role in your comfort and confidence. After all, wearing ill-fitting clothes can make you feel awkward, affecting your movements and general behaviour. That’s why one of the most famous quotes from fashion icons is from iconic fashion designer Vera Wang, who once said: ‘A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes.’ Wang has created hundreds of wedding dresses throughout her career with the aim of making women comfortable and beautiful on their special day, so she’s an expert at knowing what makes a person look and feel their best.
The best tips for buying comfortable clothes are to choose items that suit your measurements and personal style. If you don’t have your measurements before your next spree, you can ask a shop employee to measure you on site. That way, you can purchase comfortable clothes in your size that let you move more freely and highlight the best parts of your physique.
- Believe in yourself
Anxious thoughts and insecurity about your body, identity, or personality can hinder your confidence. These might make you question yourself and prevent you from feeling comfortable in your own skin. In these cases, it’s helpful to remember one of the best empowering quotes from female movie characters: ‘You must always have faith in people. And most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself.’ These wise words were uttered by Elle Woods, the aspiring lawyer from the film ‘Legally Blonde’.
Take her advice and trust yourself more in all aspects of your life, whether in making decisions, choosing an outfit, or simply trying a new hobby. Being confident in your choices and believing in yourself helps you walk with a spring in your step. You can always get advice from others if need be, but always know that what your heart and mind say can also be trusted.
- Surround yourself with confident and optimistic people
Confidence is contagious. Seeing other people be confident in themselves will inspire you to do the same. Given this, one of the many ways to build confidence is by surrounding yourself with confident and positive people. Spending time with those who are judgmental or overly critical can spark negative thoughts, affecting your mental strength and outlook.
Conversely, you’ll be surrounded by positive energies when you’re with confident people. You’ll be more motivated to complement one another, help solve the other’s problems, and cheer for each other. Before you know it, you’ll get used to these behaviours and start doing them yourself. This can help you feel comfortable in your own skin by allowing you to be like the confident people you admire.
Being comfortable in your skin allows your natural beauty to shine. Try the tips above when taking on and overcoming life’s challenges so you can become the best version of yourself—for yourself.

I googled “it’s okay to feel a bit uncomfortable in your own skin” and found only tips on how to feel comfortable in your own skin. I agree with your tips, but could do with advice on how to accept the simple fact that we’re often a bit uncomfortable, how to accept this human condition of feeling not quite at ease some of the time. Instead of always striving to become better, to become comfortable, can we also accept where we are now, not perfect, not quite comfortable?
Hi Sara, thank you for taking the time to read the article and to reply. My only advice is to try and sit with those feelings of being uncomfortable especially if you cannot change anything, when we feel those feelings and not ignore them or try to change them, we can finally have acceptance and healing.
